How Can I Help?

As a voluntary organisation Roscrea SPCA depend on the generosity of the people in Roscrea and surrounding areas to keep this organisation afloat. There are a lot of ways you can help Roscrea SPCA to help more animals in need.

Foster

Roscrea SPCA don’t have a cattery or kennels so therefore we depend on the generous hearts of the public to open up their homes to foster a pet for us. Foster home provide a safe and loving environment for the animals that come into our care. Every animal has a different background story and therefore they all require different levels of care. We typically look for foster homes in the Roscrea area so that the animals are close to our vets to complete their medical treatments. Whether its fostering cats or dogs, we will provide all the necessary accessories including food, bedding, and medication and all we ask you to provide is lots of love and tender loving care. If you think that you would be able to foster a pet for us please contact us.

Adoption

If you are thinking of getting a pet then Adopt don’t shop! Every year through no fault of their own, many cats and dogs are abandoned, neglected and abused without love or compassion. The lucky ones end up with groups like Roscrea SPCA, where they successfully find their forever homes. When you adopt you are finding the perfect addition for your family and not supporting puppy farms. When you buy a dog it generally has no veterinary work done and you incur not only the cost of buying the dog but the cost of neutering, and vaccination too. Dogs that are re homed from rescues or shelters are already micro-chipped (as its a legal requirement), neutered and vaccinated before they are adopted and the adoption fee charged generally only covers a portion of the costs that these veterinary fees incur. Therefore it is cheaper to adopt than to shop.

Adopting a pet also has many benefits, some of which you may have not even considered. Adopting a pet can save a life both of the human that adopts it and the life of of the animal. Dog is said to be man’s (and woman’s) best friend and it turns out it’s true. A pet will give you unconditional love, they will bring happiness to your life and lend an ear for when you are having a bad day. Studies have shown that owning a dog can improve ones quality of life, boost mental health and increase immunity. Studies have shown that dog owners are less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets.

By adopting a pet from Roscrea SPCA you are providing an animal with the second chance that they truly deserve. Animals come into our care due to a variety of reasons some due to neglect, abandonment, or because they have been surrendered by their owners who through change in circumstances are no longer able to take care of them. As we do not have kennels or a shelter all our animals are in foster care where their fosterer’s work to nurse them back to health and do everything possible to rehabilitate the animal to prepare them for their forever home. By adopting an animal from Roscrea SPCA you can give an animal that has been abandoned through no fault of their own a loving, stable home, and help to stop over-population.

Fundraising

It costs thousands of euros every year to maintain our Society. We help sick and injured, cruelly treated and abandoned domestic animals and wildlife. We are a group of unpaid volunteers who give their time and energy for free, we receive a grant from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to go towards expenses including neutering, micro-chipping, food and veterinary expenses for our animals. The remainder, of our funding comes from the kindness and generosity of our supporters and animal lovers like you.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the Society over the years and hope that you will continue to support us in the years to come.
