About Roscrea SPCA

Roscrea SPCA was formed in 1995 by a small group of people with an interest in animal welfare.

The Society’s policy is:

To prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare and to relieve the suffering of all animals.

It was felt by the Society in the early years, that the main objective should be to try and encourage as many pet owners as possible to neuter their pets and thus combat the huge problem of strays and unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.

The Society introduced Subsidised Neutering of dogs and cats both male and female in 1996/’97 and it has grown year by year as shown hereunder.

From 1998 to 2009 the number of pets neutered was 4,052

Please note that female dogs and cats should not be neutered while they are in heat, it is best to wait a week or two after their heat is ended.

During this period, the Society homed a number of dogs and cats that had been handed in to us as shown hereunder.

The work which has been carried out by Roscrea SPCA has been made possible by Grants received from the ISPCA (up to 2003).  After that we received substantial grants from the Department of Agriculture and Food , up to the present date.  The Society is also grateful for the generosity of the local people who are always there to support it.

Roscrea SPCA is run by a voluntary group of people who give of their time and energy to ensure the success and smooth running of the Society.  All monies received goes towards the neutering and care of animals in the Society.  Click HERE to find out how you can help Roscrea SPCA.
